Jikinya Dance Festival is a celebration of Zimbabwe’s vibrant cultural heritage, showcasing the country’s rich array of traditional dances. This festival aims to promote and preserve Zimbabwe’s traditional dances, while also fostering a sense of national pride and cultural identity among the youth.
This costume “Dashiki” is designed for ceremonial and festive purposes to celebrate Zimbabwe’s rich cultural heritage. It is also a tribute to female leader Sally Mugabe, who has fought tirelessly to end child slavery and violence. She is also the founder of the Save the Children Zimbabwe Movement and the Zimbabwe Women’s Cooperative.
The costume focuses on colors and patterns with a strong African character, along with the sophisticated and meticulous glass beading technique of designer Pham Phuoc Dien. In addition, the costume uses sedge rope and silk fixed with glue materials to create the most realistic effect of silk fluttering in the wind. The mannequin frame in the back is made of plastic and fomex, 3D cut/painted/sequined completely by hand.
